Bradley Nowell

Wesley Smith Bradley Nowell Bradley James Nowell was a performer who filled in as lead vocalist and guitarist of the reggae/punk band Sublime. He kicked the bucket at 28 years old from a heroin overdose. Brought up in Long Beach, California, Nowell built up an enthusiasm for music at a youthful age. His dad took him out traveling to the Virgin Islands during his youth, which presented him to reggae and dancehall music. Nowell played in different groups until shaping the gathering Sublime with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh.Bradley Nowell was brought up in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, California to Jim and Nancy Nowell, with his sister, Kellie. As a youngster, he delighted in surfing and cruising and regularly took part in vessel races. As Nowell developed, he turned into a troublesome youngster and was frequently hyperactive and problematic with his mate Clayton Arbuckle. His mom reviewed that he was â€Å"very passionate, touchy, extremely masterful, how ever he was needy†¦ He was continually trying just to perceive what he could escape with†. Nowell's insubordinate conduct expanded when he was ten years of age brought about by his parents’ divorce. His mother was granted authority of Nowell, yet viewed him as too hard to even consider controlling all alone and he accordingly moved in with his dad full-time at age twelve. At thirteen years old, he started playing guitar and began his first band Hogan's Heroes with Eric Wilson, who might later turn into the bassist of Sublime. Nowell and Wilson met in 6th level and lived over the road from one another; during this time, Nowell was depicted as a â€Å"gifted kid with numerous friends†. From the outset, Wilson didn't share Nowell's enthusiasm for reggae music.Nowell went to the University of California, Santa Cruz before moving to Cal State Long Beach to examine money. Notwithstanding, he dropped out one semester short of acquiring a degree, expressing in 1995 à ¢â‚¬Å"I have all the hard classes left†¦ I question I'll ever go back†. As indicated by â€Å"Westwood One Interview† on circle three of the Sublime box set, Nowell got along with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, and started acting in little shows at local gatherings and grills in 1988. The band was regularly driven away from the gatherings they performed at because of over the top commotion, which would bring about neighbors calling the police.Sublime increased a notoriety for their boisterous conduct and in the long run got one of the most mainstream groups in Southern California. Notwithstanding their prosperity, music settings were suspicious of the band's diverse melodic combination and many would not book the band. Accordingly, Nowell and Wilson made their own music name, Skunk Records, and told settings that they were â€Å"Skunk Records recording artists†, which helped the band appear to be progressively cultivated and consequently book mor e shows. The band created and dispersed Sublime's initial chronicles on the name. The band's demo tapes were later sold at shows and neighborhood record stores. While on visit in the mid-1990s, Nowell met Troy Dendekker, and they began dating. In September 1994, Troy got pregnant. In June 1995, Dendekker brought forth a child, Jakob James Nowell. Seven days before Nowell passed on, the couple wedded in a Hawaiian-themed service in Las Vegas. Seven days after Nowell's union with Troy Dendekker on May 18, 1996 Sublime set out on a five-day visit through Northern California, with an European and an East Coast visit to follow. On the morning of May 25, at the Ocean View Motel in San Francisco, drummer Bud Gaugh woke up to discover Nowell lying most of the way over a bed, with his knees and feet on the floor. At first, Gaugh accepted he had been too inebriated to even think about getting into bed; be that as it may, further review permitted him to see a green film around his mouth, and it became evident that he had overdosed on heroin. Gaugh called for paramedics, however Nowell had kicked the bucket a few hours sooner, and was articulated dead at the scene. Nowell was incinerated and his remains were spread over his preferred riding spot in Surfside, California. A gravestone was set at Westminster Memorial in Westminster, California in his memory.

The cardinal rule Essay Example for Free

The cardinal guideline Essay The cardinal guideline in making an introduction is that the opening must have the option to promptly connect with the crowd and catch their consideration. While it is likewise essential to keep up the enthusiasm of the crowd all through the introduction, the initial five (5) minutes of the introduction are the most significant. It is progressively hard to catch the consideration and enamor the crowd over the span of the introduction. This is the motivation behind why any initial introduction must have the option to attract the crowd and the body of the introduction (expecting that it is a generally excellent one or fascinating so far as that is concerned) will deal with the rest. It is imperative to recollect anyway that simple gimmickry or ability to entertain won't do the stunt as the initial introduction should likewise contain substance in light of the fact that the essential objective of any introduction is to educate and not simply engage. The key errors that moderators frequently make is to make such an engaging and diverting opening introduction that it goes about as an interruption and causes the crowd to recollect just the opening yet not the other important portions of the introduction. A case of this would be the introduction of a promotion organization specialist before the Marketing Board of PepsiCo. The moderator had an entire exhibit of media gear at this removal and even had mascots during the initial introduction. While the board was at first intrigued, the disappointment of the moderator was that the publicity and fervor that he figured out how to create at the opening couldn't be supported all through the introduction. The final product was that he lost the agreement and everything that can possibly be recollected from this introduction was the opening. A viable opening introduction should along these lines be engaging and enlightening enough to catch that consideration of the intended interest group yet it must not be the feature of the introduction. Keep in mind, it is simply the whole introduction that issues and not simply the opening.

In each and every society, there exists laws that dictate how the young are supposed to relate with theirs elders. In all societies, culture encourages respect to the elderly by the young. This respect can be expressed in the form of language through words such as Mr. or Sir. The ad agency chose this power relation for its commercial to show that whenever one shall be using their services, they shall always portray the virtues of respect. I completely relate to this kind of power relation and have had similar experience in life both in High School and College. When I joined High School, St. Junior High, I got introduced into the culture of referring to the teachers and School workers as Sir, Mr. or Mrs. By refer ring to them in this particular manner, it showed subordination. All the students did this and through all my years in St. Junior High, there are only a few teachers and school workers of whom I knew their official first names. However, even if students knew their names, they preferred to use Sir, Mr. or Mrs. when relating with them as it portrays subordination and with this the response would always be positive...

Dancing With the Death Penalty - 578 Words

First of all death penalty is morally wrong. David Kennedy, director of the center for Crime Prevention and Control at John Jay college of Criminal Justice said,†...the application of power without justice is brutal. And there is nothing democratic about brutality†(Johnson2). This is statement is true. Killing someone is brutal and is not the most humane way of handling the situation. There is movement on mandatory minimums (sentencing), there is movement on solitary confinement, there is movement on the death penalty (Johnson2). Societies belief that all life is sacred would be violated by death penalty. Solitary confinement would be the most democratic way to deal with felons or offenders. That is my reasoning on why I believe death penalty is morally wrong. Secondly, Death penalty is difficult for state correction officials. The sole question is whether state correction officials are required to publicly reveal the drugs and methods to be used to carry out the executio n (Richey1). If felons were put in prison there would be no need for state correction officials to reveal all of that information because the drugs and methods would not be used to begin with. Lawyers of death row inmates say they must know this information so that they can adequately protect their clients form unnecessary pain and suffering during state authorized lethal injections (Richey1). This makes a lot more work for state correction officials. On top of that it makes the whole process longer. Personal Organization Development Labor Opportunities

Question: Describe about the Personal Organization Development for Labor Opportunities. Answer: Reflective Commentary on movement from education to employment The transition of academic life to professional life is of utmost importance in everyones life. The first part of this portfolio would focus on the current labor opportunities in Singapore. The primary sources of data collection would be secondary data sources such as academic journals or data from professional institutions. It would also discuss the changes in the labor market in Singapore during the last few years. The later stages would define my career path and the early approaches to leadership. The different leadership behavior is also discussed. The second section would show my detailed career plan including my current job. I have prepared the intended career plan as per my skills as well as expertise. I have also completed a psychometric test and evaluated the same for any necessary improvements. The combination of the two sections would aid me in fulfilling my professional aspirations. I have included a number of different appendices which is helpful in preparing this portfo lio. Part A Graduate Labor Market in Singapore The graduates are the most commonly found in Singapore (Herr Anderson, 2014). There are trends which show that there is high rate of unemployment in the country which is observed among the graduates. The graduates are the largest group of unemployed people in Singapore. The graduates are finding difficult to find a suitable job for them. There is slow global growth of the economy which is making the multinational corporations unable to expand in the global market. The graduates who are planning to enter into the multinational companies would find few job opportunities. The unemployment rate was 2.8% during the financial year 2015 among the permanent workers and the Singaporeans (Stats.mom.gov.sg, 2016). The economy presents a gloomy picture for the labor market. Despite the global gloom, there are still positive hopes for the job seekers (Rego et al., 2014). There are some high potential areas of such as digital marketing, e-commerce, financial sector and others. The other lucrative sectors include sales as well as accounting and sales. The population of Singapore increased to 5.5 million in the year 2016. The number of population aged above 65 years is increasing at a rapid rate. The number of senior citizens has doubled in the last few years. It is further expected to increase by 2030. This implies the generation of sufficient amount of job opportunities for the young graduates. There is high probability of the creation of job vacancies for the graduates. The PEST analysis of the labour market in Singapore shows that the different factors play a major role in the creation of the employment opportunities. The political risk is low for the Singapore labor industry and they enjoy political stability (Boutchkova et al., 2012). There is better standard of living and there are enhanced business options in the country. The economic scenario of Singapore shows that the country is having rapid development options (Abeysinghe, 2015). Singapore is known to have highest per capita income in the ASEAN countries. The country is attributed to be one of the most competitive countries. However, there are certain issues such as shortage of skilled labor, increasing costs of labor and a sharp decline in productivity (Yeoh Lam, 2016). The social factors include socio-cultural set up of the population. The Singaporeans are hard working in nature and the country is characterized by high literacy rate. The change in the lifestyle of the Singaporeans can be attributed to the technological advancements. The IT system of Singapore is note worthy and provides avenues for lucrative jobs mainly for the graduates (Lee, 2016). The macro environment of the Singapore labour industry indicates that employment is considered as one of the most important priority in life. The natives of Singapore are believed to be competent as well as have intrinsic values concerning their professional life. Changes in the labor market in Singapore There have been major changes in the economy and Singapore has benefitted from the creation of labor market institutions (McKenzie, Theoharides Yang, 2014). There has been a new measure launched in the labor manpower which is aimed at managers, executives and the professionals. This included the improvement of the Fair Consideration Framework which aims to increase the employment opportunities for the graduates. It also aims to in enhance the sector specific career options for the graduates (Judd et al., 2015). The labor unions protect the interest of the employees and ensure that they get sufficient job opportunities after their academic life is completed. The employers give more importance to the practical work experience as compared to the academic degree. This is often a matter of concern for the young graduates who have negligible work experience. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has taken initiatives for improving the Singapore economy by the creation of job opportunities which would make the economy sustainable as well as facilitate growth for the economy (Stats.mom.gov.sg, 2016). There have been changes in the labor market policies that facilitate the growth of the labor force, real growth of income, growth in productivity and changes in the economic outlook. There has been great emphasis on the skills as well as capital methods of growth. A great emphasis is being laid on the quality of the workforce as well as productivity, growth and competitiveness. The organizations are also inclined to the development of the skills of the employees by engaging in training and development (Meyers, Van Woerkom Dries, 2013). They are also emphasizing on the rewards and compensation of the employees as they believe that a lucrative compensation package is essential for the retention of the employees. The graduates comprise of 25% of the total job seekers and this propels the need for generation of sufficient job opportunities. In Singapore, the career guidance has become one of the most important tasks of tertiary schools (Lim, 2014). The Education and the Career Guidance facilitated by the Ministry of Education helps the students to take decisions which is based on the abilities, passion and interests (Seidman, 2013). They are being made aware of the current as well as future employment opportunities in and around Singapore. The students are fostered to enhance their knowledge across several industries and thus fulfill their aspirations. The primary purpose is to reduce the gap between the employers demands and the readiness of the graduates to enter the workforce. This would foster the management of the expectations from the point of view of both employer and the employee. This would ensure productive partnership between these two entities. There have been some issues with the expectation of the students who are going to venture into the professional world. They often have high expectation from their jobs and their expectations are often irrational (Johnson, Kraft Papay, 2012). They have inaccurate expectations from their first job and they often live in the world of fantasies. The employers are however, not satisfied, by such sky high expectations of the students. The students need to be counseled due to these reasons and they must be explained that step by step approach for attaining success. Selection of job industry I am fascinated by the role of administration in an organization. He is the person responsible for smooth integration of the work. I am interested to work in the electrical engineering industry in an administrative profile. I am inclined to this industry as I feel there are enough growth opportunities for a working professional. Early approaches to leadership The style of leadership is characterized by providing required directions or the implementation of the plans for the purpose of fulfilling organizational objectives (Bhatti et al., 2012). There are early approaches to leadership that determine different characteristics of a leader. There are early theories of leadership such as behavioral theory, early traits theory and trait theories that identify the features of an effective leader (Dinh et al., 2014). The trait theories identify that the leaders share a number of common characteristics between them. The trait theories do help the managers to identify certain qualities such as empathy, integrity, good decision making, likability and others. The behavioral theories focus on the behavior of the individuals or leaders. There is the existence of three types of leaders such as autocratic leaders, democratic leaders and laissezz-faire leaders (De Hoogh, Greer Den Hartog, 2015). The first form of leadership engages in decision making wit hout consultation with their respective teams. The democratic leaders consult the team before formulating a decision (Kane Patapan, 2014). The third form of leaders does not interfere in the decision making ability of the teams. This type of leaders is best suitable when the team is capable and is able to work independently. Rural markets acquired greater importance in countries like India, China, etc. because of economic growth of the nations now highly depend up on the rural economy. Corporate companies are struggling a lot to get more sales/profits in urban areas i. e. almost all the companies are saturated in urban areas. â€Å"Go rural and be rural† seems to be the guiding principle of marketing. In this context, companies are diversified all their operations toward rural areas. Most of the populations with unmet needs are living in rural areas. Companies should ensure that they understood the hopes and aspirations of the rural population. They should take into consideration the low literacy levels, poor reach of the media and widespread audience and the tradition and culture of the target groups while advertising their product. This paper is developed to discuss the concept and process of rural advertising in India and successful ads. Introduction Customers are the central point in every business. So seller has to make lot of efforts to attract and to persuade the persons to purchase his products and services. Advertising is an important means to influence the potential customers. Advertising influences customers’ attitudes and purchase behaviour. Advertisements increase brand-familiarity, develop brand-image and help the organization in increasing its market share. Advertising is used for communicating business information to the present and prospective customers. It provides information about the advertising firm, features of its products, qualities, place of availability of its products, different schemes offered, benefits of using its products etc. Advertising is important for both buyers and sellers. The simplest meaning of an advertisement is that it is a public announcement. The advertising is a paid form of non-personal communication with target audience through mass-media such as television, newspapers, magazines, telephone, internet, radio, direct-mail, outdoor displays. By looking at the challenges and the opportunities which rural markets offer to the marketers it can be said that the future is very promising for those who can understand the dynamics of rural markets and exploit them to their best advantage. A radical change in attitudes of marketers towards the vibrant and burgeoning rural markets is called for, so they can successfully impress on the 230 million rural consumers spread over approximately six hundred thousand villages in rural India. The rural market is very large in compare to the urban market as well as it is more challenging market. The consumer wants those products which are long lasting, good, easy to use and cheaper. The income level of rural consumers is not as high as the income level of urban consumers that’s why they want low price goods. It is one of the reasons that the sell of sachet is much larger in the rural area in all segments. Rural market has an untapped potential like rain but it is different from the urban market so it requires the different marketing strategies and marketer has to meet the challenges to be successful in rural market. The Indian advertising industry is talking business today. It has evolved from being a small-scale business to a full-fledged industry. It has emerged as one of the major industries and tertiary sectors and has broadened its horizons be it the creative aspect, the capital employed or the number of personnel involved. Indian advertising industry in very little time has carved a niche for itself and placed itself on the global map. The creative minds that the Indian advertising industry incorporates have come up with some mind-boggling concepts and work that can be termed as masterpieces in the field of advertising. Advertising agencies in the country too have taken a leap. They have come a long way from being small and medium sized industries to becoming well known brands in the business. Mudra, Ogilvy and Mathew (OM), Mccann Ericsonn, Rediffussion, Leo Burnett are some of the top agencies of the country. The Indian advertising today handles both national and international projects. This is primarily because of the reason that the industry offers a host of functions to its clients that include everything from start to finish that include client servicing, media planning, media buying, creative onceptualization, pre and post campaign analysis, market research, marketing, branding, and public relation services. Rural consumers are fundamentally different from their urban counterparts. The lower levels of literacy and limited exposure to product and services are well-known, but there are also differences in occupation options, with a direct impact on income levels and income flows, and a high level of inter-dependency affecting the dynamics of rural community behavior. All contribute to make rural consumer behavior starkly distinct from the urban. Rural marketing has become a greatest challenge to make goods available to the rural markets because of poor infrastructure and lack of understanding of rural consumers. Only 40 per cent of the villages in India were connected by roads and only one third of rural homes had electricity. The rural market in India has great potential, which is just waiting to be tapped. Progress has been made in this area by some, but there seems to be a long way for marketers to go in order to derive and reap maximum benefits. Moreover, rural India is not so poor as it used to be a decade or so back. Things are sure a changing. Companies should ensure that they understood the hopes and aspirations of the rural population. They should take into consideration the low literacy levels, poor reach of the media and widespread audience and the tradition and culture of the target groups while advertising their product. The communication package should be developed only after an in-depth study of the mindset of each rural region. However, while selling products to the rural population, companies should connect with the local people and make an attempt to understand their mindset. Rural communication was an integral part of rural marketing. But, most companies gave the concept of rural communication a step-motherly treatment. Companies needed to invest in the right communication methods aimed at specific target groups. Corporations and advertising agencies have started working in the rural area with a different approach as compared to urban areas, like puppet shows in Punjab, Folk media like Ragini in Haryana for communicating qualities of Virat cement, Pala and Daskathia in Orissa for promoting safe electricity consumption and tooth pastes of Colgate Palmolive, Baul songs in West Bengal for advertising insecticides are some of the examples. Britannia has entered in to the rural market by participating in rural melas and displaying its down market brand Britannia Tiger Biscuits. These rural melas and weekly haats have become more popular medium of rural advertising by the media planners. Through this arrangement they can break the saddle of scant geographical distribution of customers in rural markets as people of number of villages assemble together to participate in the fair. It is a good ground for brand awareness building, trial sales and sampling. It provides a wider audience at a fairly low cost. Companies like HLL, Titan and Colgate Palmolive use festivals like Rathyatra, umbhmela, and Onam for brand promotion. These companies are following a typical media schedule and are always in a march from one place to the other with our festival calendar and a collapsible arrangement of the exhibition setup. Companies can also use popular forms of entertainment like puppetry, nautanki, ragini, bhangra, qaualli and traditional dance shows to increase the brand experience. The companies can develop a story line relating to the brand and show the characters using the brands for their advantage and even the dresses of the characters can be that of the brand‘s packaging. Power of advertising Advertising is any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of products, services or concepts by an identified sponsor. Advertising has became our dominant creative industry – what Stuart Ewen calls ‘the prevailing vernacular of public address’. It sucks up our talent for art, design, creativity and storytelling. It has become such a routine part of everyday life that we rarely stop to think about its significance. For all their diversity, advertisements share one basic value system. Advertisements may be individually innocent;  collectively they are the propaganda wing of a consumerist ideology. The moral of the thousands of different stories they tell is that the only way to secure pleasure, popularity, security, happiness or fulfillment is through buying more; more consumption regardless of how much we already have. The research shows that a walk in the park, social interaction or volunteering – which cost nothing will do more for our well-being than any amount of ‘retail therapy’. Advertising, in that sense, pushes us towards maximizing our income rather than our free time. It pushes us away from activities that give pleasure and meaning to our lives towards an arena that cannot – what Sut Jhally calls ‘the dead world of things’. With the Rural advertising, it can reach more number to rural consumers and create potential market in rural areas. While designing advertisements for the rural audience, one must understand the mindset of the rural audience, keep the message simple and logical, and avoid making it gimmicky. The uses of â€Å"education with entertainment† and â€Å"slice of life† observations are good ideas. A good advertisement tells us we need something even before we think we do. It offers us a look into the ideal life, the ideal body, the ideal mate, all wrapped in an ideal world. In India, the advertising is mostly in English or Hindi and there is often the need for thinking out the advertising concepts and the brand image in the local language itself. Advertising in the local language in the absence of shortage of professionals, makes success of rural advertising campaigns difficult. It is a general assumption of advertising theory that advertising helps to create demand. It may be worth saying to what extent advertising creates demand, particularly in our rural society. A thorough understanding of the rural consumer is a crucial key to rural marketing success. Rural markets large diversity of customs and language into account. Ideas and techniques used in urban areas just won’t work for rural consumers Rural AD Agencies Major agencies dealing with rural marketing are Anugrah Madison, MART, Sampark, Rural Relations, OM Outreach, Linterland, RCM, etc. Madison Advertising Pvt Ltd: The company is 23 years old and is famous in this advertising sector. The company provides various marketing services through Web sites, Wed banners, email marketing, public relationships, radio, direct marketing, promotion, elemarketing, out door, packaging, rural communication, retail visibility and communication, television, and print ads sources. MART, the specialist rural marketing and rural development consultancy has found that 53 per cent of FMCG sales lie in the rural areas, as do 59 per cent of consumer durable sales, said its head Pradeep Kashyap at the seminar. Of two million BSNL mobile connections, 50 per cent went to small towns and villages, of 20 million Rediffmail subscriptions, 60 per cent came from small towns, so did half the transactions on Rediffs shopping site. Successful ADS: Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) is a good example with successful rural marketing projects like ‘Project Shakti’ and ‘Operation Bharat’. The main emphasis of HLL’s strategy has been to focus on penetrating the market down the line and focusing on price point. Hindustan Lever relies heavily on its own company-organised media. These are promotional events organised by stockists. Coca Cola India entered the rural market by introducing bottles priced at Rs. 5. The campaign was backed with ads featuring well-known actor Aamir Khan. During the Aamir Khan ad-campaign, they also used local language in advertising. A combination of TV, cinema and radio was used to increase the reach to rural consumers. Coca Cola have also used banners and posters, and tapped many local forms of entertainment. Because of the common lack of electricity and refrigerators in rural areas, Coca Cola provides low-cost ice boxes — a tin box for new outlets and thermocool box for seasonal outlets. Guidelines of Rural Advertising Radio is one of the cheapest mass media to reach rural masses. Even where electricity is unreliable, transistor radios are very popular among the poorer sections of rural India. With the number of FM stations set to explode after expansion under Phase Three, it would be possible to reach even more remote areas through radio. Haats and melas tied to temple and religious festivals are great for promoting brands. While haats help in reaching a few thousand villagers from different villages in one place, melas attract lakhs of visitors across the State or across the country as in kumbh melas. They offer a variety of media opportunities in one place. However, it must be remembered that haats are gradually losing their importance in economically developed markets such as Tamil Nadu because of the tremendous progress made by small towns and their easy accessibility to villagers due to better and reliable transport facilities. Static media such as wall paintings, hoardings, shop fronts and point of sale continue to be useful as reminder media. So the messages are prominently displayed in bus stands, railway stations, on water tanks, wells and pump-sets in villages, as well as mobile media such as local buses, Visual Vans and auto-rickshaws etc. Conclusion In India, rural people’s wants, need and desires are changing rapidly, it is very important to know them and give them what they want. Now, rural market is geared for faster growth in the coming years and more sales potential. To attract rural target audience, corporate are developing different strategies. In this context rural advertising has become one of the important strategy in communicating message.

Effective Articles or Not essays

Effective Articles or Not essays From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of Confederation have been known to provide the United States with an ineffective form of government. Soon after the Revolutionary War in America, the Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation, while a new government was being started. These Articles were brought to set up a democratic government that gave the States the power to make their own laws and to enforce them. However, from my perspective, these Articles did not provide the United States with an effective government. During the time of this period, regionalism and disorder was being developed by the Continental Congress controlling the public affairs, while there was nothing in the Articles that gave Congress the power to enforce laws or unify the States. Also, there wasnt any solid monetary system to ensure that taxes would be paid or to protect commerce about nationally and foreign trade, and the country lacked unity and strength because there was no leadership. One of my reasons for the Articles not being effectual is the fact that Congress only had the power to recommend actions to the States. This could not be put into effect its recommendations or laws. Each State had its individual constitution, monetary system, and means to enforce the law. Each State also had a stronger commitment to the State laws and to the State's own self-interests, rather than to the recommendations of Congress. Regionalism eroded one State against another. This decreased the sense of unity in the country. For example, when Congress recommended a sense of duty on imported goods, the State of Rhode Island voted to reject the idea because they felt it was unfair and was against the constitution of the state. The Articles also failed to provide a solid monetary system to ensure that taxes would be paid or to protect commerce. Congress had no way to collect taxes to pay off pre-war debts. This then led to chaos and disorder. ...

Rhetorical Criticism I Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Rhetorical Criticism I - Article Example While the people at the end are well dressed with the right fire fighting gear, the person between them is naked. The information attached requires a person not to be stupid and use condom for protection. This is to show that those who are well dressed are safe but the naked person is in danger of being burnt up by the fire headed in their direction. Similarly, the ad implies that love making with no protection is as dangerous as putting off fire without the right gear. The person engaging this way is therefore stupid and the fire of infections will in turn catch up with them and burn them up. Therefore, the ad has actually played its informative role very well through the analogy created . In the second ad, the ad shows human hands ready to receive the love symbol. Added down there is the statement â€Å"safe love is true love. When he uses condom, he is saying he love you.† This ad underlines the need to receive and share safe love. It thus delivers the message most appropriately, by avoiding obscene scenarios (Andreas,

Personal Work Experience Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Personal Work Experience - Assignment Example Since I was still new in the organization, I did not want to get into conflict with anyone, hence, the reason I would accept work from other people without objection. That notwithstanding, if I tried to report that matter to my boss I would create a misunderstanding with the concerned individuals, thus, resulting in workplace conflicts that are not ideal for my stay in the new job. Technically, I was in a dilemma but I pretended that things were moving on well by straining so much to accomplish tasks from my boss and the extra ones from my colleagues. Soon the vigor and excitement that I had about the job slowly but surely vanished since I would not long for the next morning given the kind of pressure that I was going to experience at the office. Ideally, as days went by I felt more overwhelmed by the job since my arrogant boss continued to introduce new tasks for me which she expected me to complete within the usual deadlines. At some point, I tried to explain to her how overwhelmin g the job was given the short and strict deadlines that she usually set but she rudely interjected yelling at me saying that if I cannot cope with the job I should find another one that suits me.

Jury Nullification Paper Essay Example for Free

Jury Nullification Paper Essay Jury nullification is a constitutional doctrine that allows juries to acquit defendants who are technically criminals guilty, but who do not deserve punishment. It occurs in a trial when a jury reaches a verdict contrary to the judges instructions as to the law. A jury verdict contrary to the letter of the law does not belong only to the particular case before it. If a pattern of acquittals, however, develops in response to repeated attempts to prosecute a statutory offense, it can have the de facto effect of invalidating the statute. A pattern of jury nullification may indicate public opposition to an unwanted legislative enactment. In the past, it was feared that may unduly influence a judge alone or a panel of public officials to follow established legal practice, even if such practice had drifted from its origins. In most modern Western legal systems, however, often instruct juries only serve as finders of facts, whose role is to determine the veracity of the evidence, and the weight accorded to evidence, to implement these tests the law and reach a verdict, but not decide what the law is . Jury Nullification â€Å"It is not only the juror’s right, but his duty to find the verdict according to his own best understanding, judgment, and conscience, though in direct opposition to the direction of the court.† This is what John Adams said of jury nullification. John Jay, who was the first justice of the Supreme Court said, â€Å"The jury has the right to judge both the law as well as the fact in controversy.† So what is jury nullification and how does it influence courtroom proceedings and judicial practices? The definition of jury nullification according to thefreedictionary.com website jury nullification is defined as a sanctioned doctrine wherein members of a  jury disregard either the evidence presented or the instructions of the judge in order to reach a verdict based upon their own consciences. It espouses the concept that jurors should be the judges of both law and fact. The doctrine of jury nullification is based one important things, one that a juror can never be punished for the verdict they bring back to the judge, and second that a defendant cannot ever be retried once the jury has returned to the courtroom with a not guilty verdict. The first case of jury nullification in British law dates back to 1670 in trial of William Mead and William Penn, (William Penn would later go on to be the founder of the Province of Pennsylvania) these two men were charged in England for unlawful assembly, which was a law that was aimed at preventing different religious groups that were not noticed by the crown from worshipping. Both of these men were clearly guilty of breaking the law according to British law and the judge presiding over the case demanded that the jury find William Mean and William Penn guilty, but the jury refused to find these two men guilty because they felt that the law itself Jury Nullification was unjust. The judge continued to insist that the jury find these two men guilty, and the jury repeatedly refused, the judge became so infuriated with the jurors that he threw the jurors in prison. The highest court in England ordered that the jurors be released and established into common law the integrity of jurors in criminal cases. In America the Founding Fathers recognized the relevance of letting jurors determine not only the guilt or innocence of the person on trial, but the fairness of the law in which the person is charged with breaking. In more recent cases, in California a jury convicted Ed Rosenthal in two-thousand three of growing marijuana which was a violation of federal law. During the case the jury did not know and was never allowed to hear that not only was Ed Rosenthal growing medical marijuana for medical patients, but he was growing and harvesting the marijuana for the city of Oakland, California. When the trial ended and the jury found out the true facts of the case they were outraged and the foreman of the jury was quoted in the New York Times as saying â€Å"it is the most horrible mistake I have ever made in my entire life.† Should Ed Rosenthal b een convicted of growing marijuana? I feel that he should not have been convicted and the jury had a right to know the truth about who Ed Rosenthal was growing the marijuana for and for who it was being provided to. Another case would be that of Richard  Pen of Florida, who is serving a twenty-five year prison sentence in Florida for distribution of a controlled substance. Richard Pen was a forty-six year old paraplegic man who became a paraplegic after being involved in a very serious car accident that badly damaged his back, and after having back surgery that did not go as planned, Richard Pen was left in indescribable amounts of pain. Richard Pen realized that Jury Nullification. He could relieve his pain by taking large amounts of opiate painkillers, but the amount of medication his doctor had prescribed him was not enough, and they could not prescribe him anymore because it would exceed the amount of what his doctor could legally prescribe. Richard Paey felt that he had no choice but to obtain the medication illegally and he began photocopying the prescription and used them to get his medication from local pharmacies. Richard Paey was arrested and was charged with distribution of a controlled substance, but he never sold the medication, and never gave the medication away, he only used the medication for himself so that he could live somewhat of a normal existence and be free from the excruciating pain that he was in. But once again because of the way the laws are written the jury had no choice but to return to the court with a guilty verdict. In these two cases, I do feel that they did break the law, but should they have been found guilty of the charges against them? I do not feel that they should, and if the jurors were allowed to hear the truth about these cases these two men, Ed Rosenthal, and Richard Paey would not be serving time in prison, and since the Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors on the federal level can continue to arrest and charge people who use medical marijuana, you should expect to see more and more cases like this crowding up our courtrooms. You will probably see more and more cases such as Richard Paey, and other patients like him who are just trying to manage their pain and try to live somewhat of a normal life crowding up our courtrooms as well. So what can us as citizens do to undo the injustice of the Richard Paey’s and the Ed Rosenthal’s? Well unless you are serving on a jury panel, nothing, but if you happen to get a jury Jury Nullification Summons in the mail, do not ignore it as I have done many, many times before although I did have valid reasons for not being able to serve as a juror, I had a disabled parent and I was his sole caregiver, instead send back the summons stating that you are available to serve as a juror, and who knows you might be able to undo some  of the injustices of the judicial system, and keep an innocent person from serving a lengthy prison sentence. Mathematics of Microscope Resolving Power :: Math

Missing Figures Imagine this, you are walking through the forest when all of a sudden you come across the most fascinating insect (perhaps insects may not seem too fascinating at first but once you learn a little about them they are the most fascinating creatures). Well, back to the story, so you find this insect and you realize that it seems very different from those you've previously encountered. Well, being the curious scientist that you are, you take out your trusty magnifying glass and take a look. You move the lens back and forth until you find the perfect image. You see the insect's wonderful colours and patterns which you would not be able to see with your naked eye. What just happened? You simply placed a piece of glass between you and the insect and all of a sudden you get this wonderful view of nature which would otherwise be missed. Well, if you are at all curious as to know how magnifying glasses and microscopes work, then read on and find out. An Introduction to Microscopes The two types of microscopes that will be focused on in this webpage are the simple microscope and the compound microscope. The simple microscope, also known as the magnifying glass, is composed of a single converging lens. The compound microscope is composed of at least two lenses and is generally referred to as a microscope. There are two main purposes of a microscope: 1) to increase the magnification of an object 2) to have a high resolving power Both of these will be examined; however, a greater emphasis will be placed on the resolving power. Magnifying Power (brief overview) Magnifying power: is also called angular magnification. Figure 1a shows an object y in front of a lens. Rays of light reflect off the object through the lens and a now larger image, y', of y can be seen. Once, the image is brought further from the lens, as in figure 1b, the image, y', is even larger. (So as to no discrepency: in figures 1a and 1b, the observer is on the right of the lens looking towards the image y') The magnifying power, M, is given by the following: M = 1 + d/f, where f is the focal distance and d is the distance between the object and the lens Proof of M = 1 + d/f: Figure 1c is the view of the object Y from point C without a magnifying glass. Riordan Manufacturing Proposal Package

Running Header: PROPOSAL PACKAGE Proposal Package Stephen J Kiser University of Phoenix March 22, 2010 Cover Letter The goal is over the next 18 months to develop a system that will allow for the production of both our generic electric fans and personalized fans offered at our China location to become a more stream line process and adopt more of a just-in-time manufacturing approach. In order to make this process a reality the IT department will sent a request to develop an automated ordering system that will allow for quick and accurate tracking of inventory level and ordering of new inventory. The IT department will also be requested to order new bar coding systems that will allow for all merchandise and raw materials to be bar coded, and will decrease the time needed to verify new shipments. The suggestion will also be made to supplement the supply chain by adding an additional provider of electronic fan motors since the company currently being used does not have a perfect track record of dependable on time deliveries of needed inventory. Supplementing this provider will increase the successfulness of the company’s change from a stock-to-market approach to a just-in-time manufacturing approach. Materials Requirement Plan Materials Requirement Planning is an integral part of any manufacturing based business. According to The Free Dictionary’s definition of materials requirement planning is that this system â€Å"provides the user with information about timing (when to order) and quantity (how much to order), generates new rders, and reschedules existing orders as necessary to meet the changing requirements of customers and manufacturing† (2009). This definition of materials requirement planning illustrates the importance of having an excellent system in place to make certain that ordering needed materials is done in an orderly fashion that allows for the needed materials to be on hand, but will not result in an instance of having excessive amounts of inventory in stock that will need to be held for long periods of time, or that may not be used at all. For this reason Riordan needs to develop a strategy that will allow for a computerized inventory system to be utilized, which will allow for ordering to be done when materials reach a certain point so that the company doesn’t experience any down time due to insufficient amounts of inventory. One method that can be utilized to increase the efficiency in the current method of shipping and receiving raw materials would be to have a computerized system that automatically orders materials bases on sales projections entered into the system by the shipping supervisor. When orders are received the current technique is to have all orders checked first by the shipping supervisor and then unloaded by a team of employees. However, this could be streamlined as well and each incoming package be labeled with a bar code that the unloading team could then scan and after the truck had been completely unloaded the computer system would then compare what was ordered to what was received and make adjustments accordingly. New Process Design for Production of Electric Fans Currently Riordan produces the electric fans at the plant located in China. This allows for the company to utilize the cheaper resources and labor that is associated with this area. Currently the process that is utilized is that the plastic polymers used in the production of the fans are bought locally, along with the completed fan engines that will power the electric fans. The plant in China then injects the plastics into molding machines that create the various plastic parts that will be used in the completed project. Once the products are completed the plant will then ship these electric fans to anywhere in the World through use of FedEx. This process design for the production of the electric fans is sound and seems not to have any negative effects associated with this process. The only changes that could possibly be made to increase efficiency are the method used in determining what amount of products needs to be ordered. Currently the method is extrapolation based on the previous three years of sales, due to the issue with on time deliveries this method is understandable, but perhaps isn’t the most cost efficient. If the company was able to develop a more reliable supply chain than currently exist this would allow for more â€Å"real time† ordering to be done and thus the company could experience a higher degree of dynamic production capacity than currently exist (Riordan, 2009). Supply Chain for Electric Fans Currently the supply chains that exist for the Chinese plant that produces the electric fans is the purchasing of plastic polymers, used in the production of the plastic components of the fans, and ordering of the completed electric motors used to power these fans. According to the Riordan Manufacturing website there seems to be no obvious flaws with the shipments being received of the plastic polymers or any of the miscellaneous equipment used in the production of the plastic fans. However, there is only a 93% chance that the shipments of the electric fan motors will be received on time. This may not appear to be an issue to some companies but can be extremely important when attempting to develop a real time ordering system that required on time shipment of all goods and services so as not to stop the production process. For, this reason the easiest way to ensure on time delivery of these items would be to expand the sources for these parts outside of the one company that is currently used so that if one location cannot provide on time delivery of needed equipment then the other location can be utilized to maintain an steady shipment of the needed equipment to produce these electric fans. Productions Forecast for Electric Fans Currently the production forecast being utilized by the company is a make-to-stock production forecast model in which the company uses the past hree years of ordering data and through forecasting attempt to develop production level goals for the plant. This approach heavily relies on the idea that the past will repeat itself, which isn’t the case many times. This approach results in overproduction in times of economic downturn, while it may result in under production of products in periods of economic growth. This is why the suggestion is to create a more dependable supp ly chain and turn the process into a just-in-time approach, since this technique would be better suited for the individualized products that the Riordan location in China offers to customers. This would also allow for more real time data to be used when attempting developing forecasting plans and would allow for short-term changes made to the production capacity of the plant depending on the current economic situation. Implementation Plan The first task that needs to be completed in order to make the suggested changes listed above would be to complete the database system that would be responsible for tracking inventory at the electric fan plant. Developing this system would require that either an internal or external IT department be consulted or a plan of action be developed which would allow for the development of the software and purchasing of the hardware needed for this process. As the software is being developed the current amounts of inventory must first be entered into the new system that will be tracking the usage and ordering of the equipment needed in the production of the electric fans. Once this information is entered the system must have minimal information entered which will allow for the system to realize when ordering new materials is needed so that the plant does not exhaust the resources on hand before a new order is received. Once this software has been installed hardware will need to be purchased that will allow for the bar-coding of merchandise and for incoming orders to be scanned and electronically entered into the system. The second element associated with the changes being suggested is the increase in the reliability of the supply chain. First negotiations may need to take place with the initial provider of electric fan motors to ascertain exactly how many of these motors can be purchases and within what time frame and the order be guaranteed to be delivered on time. Once this information is gathered the company can attempt to set up a secondary provider of these completed motors that will ship the parts that the initial supplier may not be able to guarantee on time delivery of. Once these negotiations have taken place this information can be entered into the ordering data base so that the system will automatically order the needed parts from the supplier that will be able to ship the equipment so the orders will be received on the specified need date. B. Write an Essay in Which You Analyze and Interpret Polly...

Not all marriages have happy endings, not all marriages last forever and moving on can be difficult. That is what the short story Reconciliation, written by Polly Clark, is trying to tell us. The story is written in 1st person because we are able to read what she is thinking and feeling – even when she doesn’t know it: â€Å"It’s my first day, I cycled here† etc. It all starts â€Å"in medias res†, where the reader is thrown into the events and quickly forced to understand everything that is happening. The fact that it’s the narrator who tells the story gives a very good insight into her world and what she is thinking and that is very important when you have to characterize her. The story takes place in an office and we follow the narrator and†¦show more content†¦Vernon has moved on and Laura is still stuck. And with Laura being positive that Vernon has a new girl, Janny, the numbers show that perfectly. Laura is the single number with no match and Vernon is the one with the match. That is also a reason she really wants to find the specific numbers match: â€Å"I want its story. When I know its story I can let it go.† That really shows that Laura can’t move on unless she knows the whole story. Her marriage with Vernon is a big part of the story. As said earlier, they’ve been married for a long time and a lot has changed since they first met. When they first met eachother they talked a lot: â€Å"..It was always what was special about me and Vernon, the talks, the chatting.† But now that has changed: â€Å"..We regard eachother over months of frozen silence†. It’s very easy to notice that she is afflicted with the silence between Vernon and her. She mentions it with following sentence: â€Å"We began our relationship in a bar, and those were our best times, telling each other the truth of our lives in the warm light† and â€Å"News and questions bubble up in my throat, but I cannot speak†. This unfortunately is a very common day nowadays. Sometimes people grow apart and it seems to be the case here. Vernon seems to have accepted that while Laura is in a state of sorrow. Vernon seems to be the one who has the most control over himself and his life. He doesn’t seem as affected as her and she notices: â€Å"He looks so
